The Green Knowe books are fantasy mixed with a bit of adventure and just enough historical detail to make them interesting for children. The house is a very real character in the stories, to the extent that it feels almost like it lives and breathes. Also interesting is the strong subtext linking the books which has to do with the house, Green Knowe, as a strong, protective force.   Green Knowe is a fictionalised Hemingford Manor, the house and gardens with its topiary animals all lovingly described (the latter in real life planted as a labour of love by the author, and still.

The Chimneys of Green Knowe a.k.a. The Treasure of Green Knowe () 3. The River of Green Knowe () 4. A Stranger at Green Knowe () 5. An Enemy at Green Knowe () 6. The Stones of Green Knowe () In The Children of Green Knowe, Tolly first arrives at the castle, called Green Noah here, and gradually learns that all is not as it. An Enemy at Green Knowe has a different feel from the other, innocent stories in the series. Because it deals with a witch who practices black magic and literally worships the devil, I would hesitate to recommend it for children/5(5).

L. M. Boston's thrilling and chilling tales of Green Knowe, a haunted manor deep in an overgrown garden in the English countryside, have been entertaining readers for half a century. The fifth book in the series finally brings together our two main protagonists: the house's blood relative Tolly and. An Enemy at Green Knowe provides a steep departure for L.M. Boston, more Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1) or The Magic Thief than like any of her previous gentle books, which resemble The Water-Babies or Alice in Wonderland/5(25).
